Lai Mohammed: Buhari Won't Congratulate Dickson

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will not send a congratulatory message to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on his re-election recently.

Lai Mohammed made this disclosure on Monday in Abuja while addressing newsmen.

He explained that the President decided not to follow the practice of his predecessor, who was known to call winners of elections regardless of party affiliation immediately results are announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to Lai Mohammed, the President regards such practice as unnecessary interference in outcome of elections.

The Minister pointed out that Buhari never sent any congratulatory message to winner of the Kogi State governorship election, who is a member of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He urged those expecting to read the President’s congratulatory message to forget about it.

Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan called to congratulate Buhari even before INEC declared him winner in 2015.
