A very close associate of President Muhammadu Buhari was on Wednesday night arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Jafaru Isa, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was the former military governor of Kaduna State. He joined APC along with Buhari from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.
Isa, who served in the Ahmed Joda-led transition committee for Buhari, was apprehended by the EFCC at his house in Abuja.
His arrested reportedly came after he refused to honour an invitation sent to him to appear before the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Isa is said to have received over N100 million from Sambo Dasuki, who is in trouble with the government over an alleged diversion of about $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms to tackle terrorism in Nigeria.
He is the first chieftain of the APC arrested by the EFCC since the beginning of the probe into the alleged fraud by the last government.
